The ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation (BRIC) is pleased to announce it will be hosting the 22nd International Congress on Marine Corrosion and Fouling (ICMCF).
This conference is held every two years and is one of the more significant events in the marine biofouling and corrosion area. There are approximately 300 registrants.
The Director of the BRIC, Professor Sophie Leterme, said “Being invited to host the ICMCF conference is very prestigious; it signals the broad extent of the BRIC’s international reach. The conference is attended by many of our collaborators and it is an opportunity for the biofilm community to get together” She added that “Adelaide is a lovely city situated within South Australia. South Australia produces the best wine in the country and is proud to boast lovely countryside and beaches”.
Dr Eugene Georgiades, Chair Comité International Permanent pour la Recherche sur la Préservation des Matériaux en Milieu Marin (COIPM), stated that “since its inception in 1964, the International Congress on Marine Corrosion and Fouling has become the foremost international conference on the fouling and corrosion of materials in the sea, bringing together scientists and technologists from academia, industry, defense and other governmental organizations to present and discuss recent developments in the field. This includes topics such as biofouling, bio-adhesion, corrosion of materials, and the performance of vessels in the marine environment”. He added that “we are all very excited to have the opportunity to meet with our colleagues in South Australia in 2028”.
About the ARC Training Centre for Biofilm Research and Innovation
The BRIC is jointly funded by the Australian Research Council as well as valued industry partners such as BAE Systems, ASC Pty Ltd, the Defence Science and Technology Group, the Australian Submarine Agency, Franmarine, Osmoflo, Enware, and SA Water. It is headquartered at Flinders University, and has research nodes at Swinburne University, RMIT University, the Queensland University of Technology, and the University of Tasmania.

The Comité International Permanent pour la Recherche sur la Préservation des Matériaux en Milieu Marin is an international organization that brings together experts and researchers to conduct cooperative research on marine corrosion and fouling.
