A strength of the training centre is its strong links between the Defence and water industries to tackle biofilm related problems. This collaborative approach supports the innovation and the development of cutting-edge solutions to manage biofilms within water systems. The developed research projects will increase our knowledge of (i) antimicrobial coatings to prevention biofilm formation on plumbing surfaces and filter membranes (ii) monitoring of biofilm formation and the relationship between water quality, and (iii) the interactions between the biofilm microbial communities, water quality and disinfection/treatment efficacy.
